The problem we find ourselves in is when depression (or “the fall)
comes knocking at our door (or slams us to the ground) and we
Our society only honors, acknowledges and respects the bright,
youthful, extroverted, up-ness of the human’s life-path journey.
There is no room for katabisis.
No space to lay-low, do inner-work, and allow the fall and winter
of life to pass through… just like any other season.
We think we are sick.
We go to the doctor for pills.
We lay on the therapists couch and try to “work it out”, cuz we gotta
get “back to work”.
We lament and fret over the natural “going down” process, rather
than see if for what it is (an opportunity to grow stronger in the
spiritual aspect) we waste what little energy we do have left to
battle against it, or fight depression.

And when we accept that fact, we are not only able to let go of
control… we also discover that in our going down, we may discover
a new passion, purpose or reason to spring back up!
According the Carl Jung, the going down (or depression) process is
cause to rediscover split-off parts of our personality. Parts of ourselves
which have been rejected and cast into the shadows of our consciousness.
We go down in order to retrieve what we’ve lost.
I know this is true, NOT because I read it in a book, I know this is true
because I’ve experienced it. And those of you who have been here
long enough have seen me go UP, and go DOWN (and UP again)..
