Dit verhaal wil ik met jullie delen.
Ik heb dit altijd mooi gevonden, vanaf de eerste keer dat ik het las.
En heeft me altijd weer moede gegeven en vertrouwen.
 
Voetstappen

Op een nacht had een man een droom. Hij droomde dat hij langs het strand liep met de Heer aan zijn zijde.
Gebeurtenissen uit zijn leven flitsen voorbij. Bij iedere gebeurtenis ontdekte hij twee paar voetdrukken in het zand: het ene paar van hem, het andere paar van de heer. Terugkijkend naar al die voetdrukken zag hij dat er bij alle moeilijke en verdrietige momenten uit zijn leven hij slechts één paar voetdrukken zag in det zand. Dat bevreemdde hem en hij vroeg de Heer ernaar. 'Heer', zei hij. 'toen ik besloten had U te volgen zei U mij dat U altijd aan mijn zijde zou zijn. Maar nu heb ik gezien dat ik slechts één paar voetafdrukken zag in de tijd dat ik het erg moeilijk had. Waarom heeft U mij juist toen verlaten?' De Heer antwoordde: 'Mijn zoon, mijn dierbaar kind. Ik heb je lief en zal je nooit in de steek laten want in die tijd van beproeving en tijden en jij zag maar één paar voetafdrukken in het zand was Ik het was die jou droeg'.

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:

"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied:

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."
